Calderdale Way Relay 2022

Posted: Tuesday, May 17th, 2022

Well done everyone, looks like we got lucky with the weather as it hammers it down outside my window as I write this.

Reports from runners to Graeme Lee please for OTSL, but here’s some Highlight stats:

Team 41

44th 8:53:44

Team 42

74th 10:01:53

At 1:10:09 between them, that is actually the closest timewise the two teams have ever been!

Best overall run (position) was Steve Whalley and Martin Bayliss who finished 26th on Leg 3; closest to Jeff’s renowned predictions were Brian Hutson and Nige Thomas, who finished Leg 4 just 2 minutes and 2 seconds outside what I thought they’d do; but club Kudos goes to Alice Buttle and Sarah Brewer, who have set a new record for Team Purple on Leg 5 – their 80:27 destroying the 89:45 which has stood since 2015!

Steve and Zena Whalley ran their first CDW Relay (but not their last…!) and Mick Lancaster became the second person to complete the full set of all 6 legs; whilst Giles Bailey, Paul Elliott and Rebecca Johnstone can join that club next year…

MAC Down & Up Championship Race 27th February 2022

Posted: Wednesday, March 2nd, 2022

There were many ups and downs at the inaugural Down & UP, held from the Top of the Wessenden Valley. It was an Alice in Wonderland type event with the main up being the main Down and the main down being the main Up. Another major up was the weather. Just a week on from building arks there we were in glorious sunshine with not a cloud in the sky and views for miles. Another up was the presence of Jeff Miller to do the timings and the sea of green and purple shirts that would make the event worthwhile.

See Results and commentary.

Great weather before the start for the 15 participants.

Winter Handicap 9th January 2022

Posted: Monday, January 10th, 2022

A bit of mud and a clockwise direction caught you all off guard by the looks of it, with not a single one of you beating the handicapper!  Allie Lamb was closest though – crossing the line exactly 1 second after I thought she would, and as such takes the win – CONGRATULATIONS!

Some good bunching behind, with both the actual and handicap times – just 15 seconds separating Sara L, Tony D, Graeme L and Sarah B, with another tight group with Rachel just keeping Rebecca and Lorna behind (Lorna running her first Handicap – welcome and well done!)

Many thanks to Anita, Gilly, Ruth and Zena for officiating on the day.

As a Championship race, points are awarded…tonight I will calculate the actual Handicap Handicap times (if that makes sense) which may well shake some of those points up.

Any questions – keep them to yourself – Handicappers word is final…! RESULTS PAGE

2021 Summer Handicap

Posted: Saturday, July 31st, 2021

Handicap results included…pretty pleased to get all but 2 within 60 seconds (and Anna did ask for an extra minute having just come back from illness, which would have brought in her in had I not been so mean…!) and congratulations to Callum for completely catching the handicapper off guard…enjoy it, because with an actual time of 20.19 you’ll be handicapped out of the park next time!!
